Fire heavily damages Circle Drive home in Cornelia, displacing resident

An investigation is continuing after fire heavily damaged a Cornelia home early Monday.

The fire at 132 Circle Drive was dispatched at 3:33 a.m., said Cornelia Division Chief Josh Hazle.

When firefighters arrived six minutes after dispatch, the found heavy fire coming from the home, and were able to contain the fire to one side of the structure, Hazle said. But there was heavy heat and water damage throughout the building.

No one was home at the time of the fire that required the response of firefighters from Cornelia, Demorest, Baldwin, and Habersham County and shut down Main Street for two hours.

Hazle said one adult resident was displaced by the fire.

The Cornelia Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause.
