Three kayakers were rescued off of the Yellow River Saturday evening near the Stone Mountain Highway bridge in Lilburn.

The group was stranded after the kayak they were in overturned, according to a press release from Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. One of the kayakers called 911 from a branch they were sitting on in the river.

Crews from Fire Station 22 located one of the kayakers downstream from the bridge standing on a sandbar. A personal flotation device was thrown to them to wear before they were pulled back to shore with a throw rope.

The other two kayakers were found upstream from the bridge with one standing on a sandbar and the other sitting on a branch. One was wearing a personal flotation device and the other was not; they were thrown one to wear before both were pulled back to shore.

All three people were uninjured and rescued within 40 minutes of firefighters arriving on the scene.

The river was at a higher-than-normal flow because of recent rains, according to the press release.
