Former Gainesville police officer fired following DUI crash

By AccessWDUN staff

A former officer with the Gainesville Police Department has been fired following a DUI crash early Saturday morning in Oakwood.

A social media statement from the department identified the officer as Tyler McBee. According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, McBee, 31, was charged with DUI-alcohol, hit and run, and failure to maintain lane in the single-vehicle accident. He was off-duty and driving a personal vehicle at the time.

Gainesville police officers responded to the scene at Meeks Drive and Mountain View Road just before 3:45 a.m. After determining an officer was involved in the crash and alcohol was a possible factor, the Hall County Sheriff's Office was called to investigate.

McBee was fired as a result of the incident. He had worked for the department as a patrol officer since November 2019.

McBee posted bond Saturday morning a few hours after his arrest.
