Oakwood City Council set to vote on several rezonings

The Oakwood City Council at their work session Tuesday discussed several agenda items that will be included in the next Oakwood City Council meeting.

The Oakwood Council will vote on Falcon Investment’s request to rezone three properties on Atlanta Highway across from Southland Drive. A 600,000 square foot distribution center would be constructed on the site. It is currently unknown what manufacturer would utilize the center.

The city will also vote on the annexation of an additional .49 acre strip from the property into Oakwood.

Milton Martin Honda proposed moving their facility operations in Gainesville to Oakwood on Atlanta Highway. Developer Rochester & Associates will oversee the potential project. The 1-acre property will have right-in, right-out access from Atlanta Highway.

“It will have to abide by all the overlay districts because it's in the Atlanta Highway overlay,” Oakwood community development director Dan Schultz said. “We've requested [it] being recommended [for] approval. A planning commission also unanimously recommended approval as presented.”

Cajun-Dawg Landholdings requested a conservation subdivision at Martin Road and Falcon Crest Drive. Developer Johnny Free added a condition for the subdivision to be a gated community and have private roads. He also wants one conservation lot removed from the request because it has a slope greater than 25%.

Tiara Oakwood, LLC applied to rezone nearly 20 acres on HF Reed Industrial Parkway. The rezoning would allow for the expansion of King’s Hawaiian in order for the company to have more baking space.

“They're looking at developing this very similar to what is across the street,” Shultz said. “And they're not asking for any exceptions or such.”

The Oakwood City Council will vote on these zoning requests at the next meeting on Monday, April 11 at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and will take place at Oakwood City Hall.
