By Austin Eller News Director

Two men were arrested in Lula on Wednesday, and one of those men has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking.

According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, deputies were investigating a tip about a wanted person at a home on Hemlock Drive around 11:30 a.m.

When deputies arrived at the home, Michael Jay Rummel, Jr., 22, of Gillsville, reportedly ran from the back of the home. Deputies chased him on foot and caught him nearby.

A second person in the home, Christopher Brian Meyer, 33, of Commerce, also ran from deputies. Meyer was found hiding in a nearby wooded area by a K9 officer.

During the search for the two men, deputies found two small black bags containing narcotics, including about 46 grams of methamphetamine packaged in small bags along with a scale. Deputies also found two amphetamine tablets. Rummel's ID was also found inside one of the bags.

Rummel was initially transported to the hospital because he allegedly told deputies he had ingested narcotics as he was fleeing the home. He was then booked into the Hall County Jail, where he remained as of Thursday morning.

Rummell was charged with trafficking of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of amphetamine.

Meyer was charged with obstruction for fleeing from deputies.
