2 injured in Queen City Parkway crash

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

Two people were injured in a Monday morning crash at the intersection of Queen City Parkway and Aviation Boulevard.

The accident involved a flatbed tractor-trailer and Honda Accord, according to information from the Georgia State Patrol and Gainesville Fire Department.

The Georgia State Patrol said the Honda Accord was driving northbound on Queen City Parkway in the left turn lane in an attempt to turn onto Aviation Boulevard. The Accord was driven by Angelyn Torres, 18, of Gainesville. Torres had a passenger in the vehicle. The second vehicle, a Freightliner tractor-trailer, was driving southbound on Queen City Parkway in the right lane.

Torres allegedly failed to yield to the tractor-trailer before turning left. The truck traveled to the right side of the roadway to avoid the Accord, but it did eventually strike the right side of the Accord. The Accord rotated and traveled off the left side of the roadway, while the truck traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Torres and the passenger of the Accord were transported non-emergency to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash. Torres was cited for failure to yield while turning left and driving while unlicensed.

The intersection was closed for roughly an hour following the crash.
