Three people were taken to area hospitals following a three-vehicle accident in Commerce Sunday afternoon.

A press release from Banks County Fire/EMS said emergency crews responded to the scene at the intersection of GA 59 and GA 63 at about 12:55 p.m.

The Georgia State Patrol said in a news release a 2001 Ford F-250 driven by Boston Brown, 16, of Commerce, and a 2021 Hyundai Accent were driving northbound on GA 59. The F-250 was directly behind the Accent.

The Accent slowed down to make a left turn onto GA 63, when the F-250 struck the rear bumper of the car. Brown is accused of following too closely in the incident.

The Accent then traveled into the southbound lane of GA 59 and struck a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. The Ram rotated and turned over, at which time all three of its passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the Ram, Michael Daniel, 42, and passenger Michael Daniel, III, 20, both of Nicholson, were taken to Piedmont Athens Regional with minor injuries. A third passenger in the Ram, Wyatt Daniel, 9, of Nicholson, was taken to Egleston Children's Hospital for serious non-life-threatening injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol said the Ram's passengers were not wearing seatbelts.

The driver and passenger of the Accent left the scene on foot and have not been identified.
