NGHS COVID hospitalizations pass peak from September 2021

By Austin Eller News Director

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations at Northeast Georgia Health System facilities has passed the fourth peak of hospitalizations from September 2021.

Data released by NGHS shows 341 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 on Monday. Hospitalizations reached 333 in September. The number of hospitalizations once again dipped below the September peak on Tuesday, down to 330.

This increase in hospitalizations is fueled by the rapid spread of the omicron variant throughout the U.S.

Hospitalization numbers have yet to hit 355, the health system's peak during the third wave of COVID-19 cases in January 2021. The peak from wave three is the highest number of hospitalizations the health system has reported since the start of the pandemic.

Tuesday's data shows 65% of those hospitalized with COVID-19 at NGHS facilities are unvaccinated. 73% of those fighting COVID-19 in critical care are unvaccinated. The average age of COVID-19 positive patients was 64.
