Hall County Schools makes Constitution literacy only a click away

Friday is Constitution Day, and five years ago, the Hall County School System wanted to make an impact on the community when it comes to Constitutional literacy.

"It goes back to 2016. Our superintendent Mr. [Will] Schofield and the school board felt like we needed to have conversations and build some resources out there to educate people about the Constitution, you know, certainly the backbone of our, our government and has been replicated throughout the world and so, you know, that really started the initiative to really be the most constitutionally literate system in the world," said Director of Digital Convergence Eddie Millwood. "And so we started talking about 'how do we educate people about what the Constitution is?' the history of the Constitution."

From there, Millwood said he got involved, and so did some teachers to construct the course.

The program is a series of video and audio educational elements, complete with a quiz at the end. A certificate is also available to print upon completion, Millwood said. It's free and open to the public, and available here.

A systems error resulted in disrupted analytics, but Millwood said they were pleasantly surprised to see how many visitors the site had, and from where.

"I can tell you that, as of 2018, we had already had people in over 15 countries that had access to course. We had over 50,000 people had taken the course at that point," said Millwood. "So, we feel confident that it's probably close to if not more than 100,000 at this point. We currently have about 350 pageviews a week for that course."

The school system also still offers physical copies of the Constitution for anyone who wants one. Just contact the school board central office and ask for Charlene Young.
