Two dead following Monday Athens shooting

One man from Flowery Branch and a teenager from Athens are dead following a shooting Monday in west Athens-Clarke County.

According to a press release from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Ashawn Adams, 16, of Athens died at the scene of the incident in the 300 block of Marlborough Downs Road. 

Casey Parten, 21, of Flowery Branch was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds after the incident and died Wednesday as a result of those wounds. 

A third person, Tyler Parten, 24, of Flowery Branch, was involved in the incident but was not injured, according to the press release.

No information has been released by authorities regarding the motive or what led to the incident.

A GoFundMe page was created early in the week by acquaintances of Casey Parten and Tyler Parten to raise money for those involved.

According to the GoFundMe page, Casey Parten and Tyler Parten allegedly met with an individual Monday evening for a Facebook Marketplace transaction. The GoFundMe states Casey Parten and Tyler Parten were attempting to buy a dirt bike. 

"The transaction didn’t go well and Casey is the victim of several gunshots," the GoFundMe reads. "He was in the operating room for several hours while the nurses and multiple surgeons went to work to try to recover him. Due to his injuries, Casey has passed away."

As of Thursday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised over $4,300.
