GHS's Pam Ware recognized with national award

Gainesville High School Theatre Director Pam Ware was selected as the winner of a national theatre award recently.

Ware was one of 42 high school teachers and coaches recognized by the National Federation of State High School Association for their exemplary performance in speech, debate, theatre, and music.

Ware was named as NFHS Outstanding Theatre Education Award winner for Section 3, which is composed of Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. Criteria included the organization and continuance of an activity program, significant and ongoing contributions to the field, years of both curricular and co-curricular service, and contributions to the profession both in and out of the state.

Ware has served Gainesville High School for the past 45 years in both theatre and in literacy. She has served on the Georgia Thespian State Board since 1975, is an active member of the Educational Theatre Association, and is credited with establishing the First International Troupe at GHS.

Ware was previously recognized by the school system in 1994 for her dedication, with the naming of the Pam Ware Performing Arts Center.

"I was thrilled to learn that I was selected as the winner of the top award for our large area that involves several states," said Ware in a press release. "I know that I am blessed to still love my work with students of various talents and who have built a strong work ethic which I expect of all performers. I look forward to preparing for each class, and I know that I do make a difference in the lives of many of my students."

Ware was recognized at the Monday school board meeting.
