Man faces multiple charges following chase with Alto police officer

A Maysville man was arrested late last week following a chase with law enforcement officers.

The Georgia State Patrol over the weekend identified the suspect as Robert White, 47. Troopers reported White was arrested after he refused to stop for Alto Police Cpl. Timothy Tanksley.

Alto Police Chief Josh Ivey updated details of the incident Monday morning, saying Tanksley attempted to stop a Ford Explorer for a tag violation on April 8.

"The suspect fled from Cpl. Tanksley and a pursuit started," Ivey wrote in an email statement. "Cpl. Tanksley performed a PIT maneuver in the area of Payne Norton Road."

When White's vehicle struck a mailbox, he left the vehicle and ran from the officer; at that point, he was arrested.

Ivey said White faces a list of charges including DUI, fleeing and attempting to elude, no insurance, failure to maintain lane, attempting to conceal identity of the vehicle, drug related objects, failure to stop for stop sign, obstruction and suspended license. Ivey said White was also wanted on charges in the Augusta area.
