By Austin Eller News Director

Three people were displaced after a house fire early Sunday morning heavily damaged a home in Buford.

According to a press release from Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, fire crews responded to the single-story home on Craig Drive NE at 3:08 a.m. There, they found heavy smoke showing from the home.

The scene was later declared under control at 3:55 a.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The fire caused heavy damage to the home and items inside, according to the release.

The fire investigator believes the fire was accidental and may have started in a void space in the ceiling. The investigator was unable to rule out an electrical source as a cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross was contacted to help the three individuals who were displaced from the home.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services asks the public to practice fire safety by installing smoke alarms on every level of a home, and in each bedroom. On top of this, they recommend developing a home fire escape plan and practicing drills regularly.
