A Gainesville man has been arrested and charged with one count of rape.
Hall County Sheriff's officials said in a press release Friday that Angel Garcia-Ortega, 37, remained in the county jail folliwng his arrest Thursday evening.
Garcia-Ortega reportedly raped a female victim, who was under 16 years old, at a residence on Atlanta Highway. They said he knew the victim.
The victim told a third party about the incident, and that person reported it to law enforcement.
The Sheriff's Office was alerted to the crime by the Gainesville Police Department on Sunday, March 28. GPD determined the incident happened in the county.
More charges are expected, the Sheriff's Office said, and the current charge applies to an incident that occurred between 2016 and 2020.
