Gainesville teen arrested in child molestation case

The Hall County Sheriff's Office arrested a Gainesville teen Saturday in connection to a child molestation case.

According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the suspect, Lonny Reid Chapman, 17, faces one count of aggravated sodomy and seven counts of aggravated child molestation.

Chapman is accused of committing the crimes at his residence on Old Howser Mill Road against a female victim under the age of 16 between Nov. 21, 2020, and Jan. 31, 2021, according to the release. He reportedly knew the victim.

Deputies first learned about the incidents on Feb. 2, 2021, after the victim disclosed them to family. 

Investigators obtained arrest warrants on Friday. The suspect was then taken into custody Saturday evening at GA 60/Thompson Bridge Road and Club Point Way.

Chapman remained in the Hall County Jail as of early Monday afternoon.

The case is under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
