Rabies case reported in Buford area of Hall County

The second confirmed case of rabies in Hall County has been reported Friday.

Hall County officials said in a press release the rabid raccoon was found in the 4300 block of Chatuge Drive in Buford. It came in to contact with a dog.

The first case was in the East Hall area.

The raccoon was taken to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur where tests showed the raccoon had rabies Thursday.

Positive alert signs have been posted in the area, and residents are urged to report animals acting unusually to Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours, call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Pet owners are also encouraged to vaccinate their pets against rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter, by appointment, for $10. Schedule an appointment by calling 678-450-1587.
