The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 at Northeast Georgia Health System facilities rose sharply over the holiday weekend.
According to data released Monday afternoon by NGHS, 110 patients were being treated with the virus that day. On Christmas Day, 78 patients were being treated with the virus, and 90 were being treated on Sunday.
110 is the highest hospitalization number the health system has reported since Oct. 16, 2021, when Georgia was emerging from the fourth surge in COVID-19 cases.
Of those being treated for COVID-19 by NGHS on Monday, 71% were unvaccinated. All of those fighting COVID-19 in the critical care unit were unvaccinated, according to the data.
The average age of those hospitalized was 63.
