New fines for false alarms in Lawrenceville

The Lawrenceville City Council is cracking down on false alarms. Effective Wednesday, December 1, the council updated their codes to include a “False Alarm Ordinance.” Fines for excessive false alarms will begin January 1, 2022.

In a statement from the council, they explained their decision to focus on this issue. “The City of Lawrenceville finds that excessive false alarms unduly burden the limited resources of the Lawrenceville Police Department.” They add that they are hoping to encourage alarm owners and alarm companies to improve the reliability of alarm systems and reduce, or eliminate, false alarms.

The ordinance lists out the steps needed to apply for an alarm system installation or transfer. Also, the new fines were addressed. A $25 fine will occur after three false alarms at a residence; four or more false alarms will cost $100 per alarm.

Businesses have even steeper fines. Fines begin after two false alarms at $50, increasing to $200 after three false alarms and $400 each time after that.

The city is encouraging citizens to go to the website www.crywolfservices.com/lawrencevillega to register their alarms, as well as read more about the ordinance. You can also visit lawrencevillega.org.
