Incumbents defeated in Lula, Cleveland

Voters in Lula on Tuesday kicked the city's mayor and a longtime city councilman out of office. So did voters in Cleveland.

Incumbent Mayor Jim Grier was defeated in his bid for re-election by Joel Thomas, who won by just 10 votes but with 51 percent of the total.

Longtime Councilman Mordecai Wilson was also defeated in a re-election bid. Gene T. Bramlett beat Wilson with 58 percent of the vote for the District 3 seat on the council.

In the District 2 City Council race, Juanita Denise Shockley won with 53 percent of the vote, defeating Marvin Moore and Patti Thomas.

Meanwhile in Cleveland, incumbent Kevin Stanley lost a bid for re-election to Jeremy McClure for the Ward 3 seat, while C.J. McDonald won the Ward 4 seat, defeating incumbent Bradley Greene.

In two contested races in Gillsville, Kody Rylee won the Post 1 City Council seat with 58 percent of the vote, defeating Phil Ferguson. Jeff Perry won the Post 2 seat with 74 percent of the vote, beating Larry Poole. Wade Dale was unopposed in his bid for mayor.

In Flowery Branch, William McDaniel won the Post 3 race with 64 percent of the vote, defeating Chip McCallum. Meanwhile, in unopposed races, Ed Asbridge won the mayor's race. Incumbent Councilman Joe Anglin won the Post 4 race. Oliver McClellan won the Post 5 race.

In Clermont, there were no contested races. James Nix won the mayor's race. Amanda Nix wins the Ward 1 City Council seat. Marcia Kesler wins the Ward 3 seat and James Castleberry wins the Ward 4 seat.
