20-year-old woman hit by car, killed walking near UGA

A 20-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car while walking close to the University of Georgia's campus Saturday morning. 

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. when Ariana Zarse and a friend attempted to cross Broad Street near Foundry Street in downtown Athens. As they crossed the street, a Honda Accord traveling west on Broad Street struck Zarse. 

According to Athens-Clarke County police, the driver of the Honda did not remain at the scene of the incident. Police said they were able to locate the car involved in the crash, but have not been able to identify the driver. 

Zarse was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries. Her friend was not hit by the car.
