A section of Interstate 85 was closed for hours Friday as at least four wrecks involving tractor-trailers were investigated and cleared in Banks County.
"On Friday, August 21, the Georgia State Patrol investigated several crashes on I-85," said Sgt. C.E. Parker of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville. "At approximately 12:00, we were notified of multiple crashes that occurred in the area of the Banks/Franklin County line.”
While the reports are not completed yet, Parker was able to release some basic details.
"The original crash we investigated involved a tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound, traveled into the grass median and struck the cable barrier,” Parker said. “After this crash, as traffic began to back up, a southbound tractor-trailer was following too closely and traveled onto the west shoulder and struck a guardrail. A third crash then occurred when a passenger car struck the rear of the second tractor-trailer.”
Parker said Banks County Sheriff’s Office personnel investigated an additional crash involving several other vehicles, including a tractor-trailer.
“There were only minor injuries from the third crash between the passenger car and tractor-trailer, with two patients transported to a local hospital,” Parker said. “I do not have any further information as far as weather conditions or traffic congestion from construction as the reports are not completed yet.”
