North Georgia Community Foundation awards $69,000 grant to school districts

The North Georgia Community Foundation completed its sixth cycle of COVID-19 relief grants, according to Megan Martin with the NGCF. Nonprofit organizations and 13 school systems throughout North Georgia received $69,000, which will be used to cover COVID-19 expenses. The school systems will use the money for necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), thermometers, and cleaning and sanitation supplies. They will also use the money to aid in virtual learning by acquiring resources like tablets, wireless hotspots and more.

Jeremy Williams, Superintendent of the Gainesville City School System, said, “We appreciate this grant from NGCF to assist us with measures and precautions we are implementing as we open our doors for the 2020 – 2021 school year.”

The school districts that received the grant are as follows: Dawson County, Fannin County, Forsyth County, Gainesville City, Habersham County, Hall County, Lumpkin County, Pickens County, Rabun County, Stephens County, Towns County, Union County and White County.

The NGCF is currently accepting donations to continue helping schools and their students cope with the pandemic. Donations can be made at www.ngcf.org/donate.
