Wreck on Ga. 365 seriously injures off-duty Banks County investigator

A Banks County Sheriff’s Office investigator remains in the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery following an afternoon motorcycle wreck in Baldwin while off duty Saturday.

“At approximately 1:15 p.m., a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Jonathan Segars, 32, of Maysville, was traveling south on Ga. 365 within the city of Baldwin,” said Cpl. John P. Getty of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa. “As the vehicle approached the intersection of [Ga.] 384, Mr. Segars applied the brakes and the motorcycle began to skid. Both driver and motorcycle overturned onto the roadway.”

Segars was flown by an AirLife Georgia helicopter to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

“Please say a prayer for one of our investigators,” an 8:30 p.m. social media post from the Banks County Sheriff’s Office reads. “He was involved in an off-duty motorcycle crash and in the hospital. He is currently in ICU, but the doctors are very optimistic in his recovery.”

A Go Fund Me page for Jonathan Segars (spelled Johnathan on that page) had raised nearly $2,600 of its $20,000 goal Saturday night. The page can be found here.
