Man remains hospitalized after Banks County shooting

A domestic dispute between an aunt and nephew on July Fourth resulted in a shooting in Banks County.

“The Banks County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute involving a male that had received two gunshot wounds to his body,” said Chief Deputy Shawn Wilson. “The incident occurred on Leachman Road in Commerce. The male was transported to an area hospital for care.”

An update from the sheriff’s office Monday says the male was shot by a female who was still on scene when deputies arrived. The incident was determined to be between an aunt and nephew.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” said Banks County Sheriff’s Capt. Carissa McFaddin on Monday. “Due to that, we cannot release the names, nor if the male subject was an actual victim. The male lived on the same property, but not within the residence.”

The man remained hospitalized Monday for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies and Banks County Fire/EMS were dispatched at 11:22 p.m. Saturday.
