Female airlifted after fall from waterfall in Habersham County

Few details are immediately available about a female who fell 40 to 60 feet from a waterfall in northeastern Habersham County Wednesday afternoon.

The female, whose age and other information are not yet known, suffered back, head and lower extremity injuries, said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

“The patient had to be secured and removed by stokes basket with a rope system for getting her from below grade of the road, approximately 40 feet straight up to where she was taken by Stephens County EMS to a landing zone where AirLife 2 was waiting to transport her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Trauma Center,” Black said.

The call reporting the fall in the area of Pumping Station Road and Davidson Cove near the Stephens County line was reported just after 1 p.m.

“From what we can tell, Filmy Fern Falls is the name of the waterfall,” Black said.

Habersham County Emergency Services and LACI were dispatched and responded, and by request of Habersham County, Stephens County EMS was requested mutual aid due to high call volumes for Habersham County and the Stephens County ambulance being closer.

“This call is just completing so there is no word on the condition of the patient and I am not aware of where she is from, age, etc.,” Black said. “This was the third wilderness rescue for our crews in the past two weeks where crews had to treat and extricate the patient under very difficult conditions and temperatures, but again successful and safely completed. These type calls are only successful due to the relationships with other departments and agencies, and we are certainly grateful for those long-standing relationships.”
