Lumpkin County seeks public input on future of Yahoola Creek Reservoir

Lumpkin County is debating what to do with the Yahoola Creek Reservoir. The Yahoola Creek Reservoir Committee is seeking input from the community on the best use of that space. There have already been several opportunities for the public to express their opinions and ideas on the Yahoola Creek Reservoir Master Plan and they have now released a survey allowing the community yet another opportunity to give input.

The purpose of the Yahoola Creek Reservoir Master Plan is to assist the Lumpkin County Government Board of Commissioners in planning for future development and improvements to recreation, greenspace, and trails within the reservoir property. The survey takes between 8-10 minutes and was developed by Lose Design, a firm of landscape architects, planners, and engineers hired by Lumpkin County Government to write the master plan.

In February, the Parks and Recreation Department hosted a meeting allowing the public to drop in and express their opinions on draft options. That was the first step in the master planning efforts and getting the public’s involvement and opinion was key in this Phase I.

The reservoir is owned by the Lumpkin County Government.

The current survey includes questions to determine what locals believe to be priority for the property – from walking trails, restrooms and camping. The online public survey is available until June 19.
