The Georgia Senate District 50 Republican race will move to a runoff in August to determine who will advance to the ballot in November.
Andy Garrison, Dan Gasaway, Stacy Hall, Bo Hatchett, Tricia Hise and Lee Moore faced off Tuesday, with Hall and Hatchett, both of Habersham County, receiving the most votes based on preliminary election returns.
At least one precinct in Jackson County has not yet reported, but it is not clear if that will affect this race.
Hall, the 2020 chairman of the Habersham County Commission, received 7,655 votes across the district, according to preliminary election returns, while attorney Hatchett received 7,516 votes.
Garrison received 3,512 votes, Gasaway received 1,987, Hise received 5,670 and Moore received 3,995.
The winner of the August runoff will face Democrat Dee Daley in November.
The district includes parts of Jackson, Banks, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Rabun, Stephens and Towns counties.
Republican John Wilkinson of Toccoa, who has held the seat, was seeking a position in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Note: Jackson County still has a precinct outstanding, so these numbers likely will change.
