A single-vehicle wreck Wednesday morning trapped and injured a Clarkesville man on Ga. 365 at Hazel Creek Road near Mt. Airy.

Billy Ernest Craven, 63, suffered visible injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

Craven’s 2006 Lexus GS was traveling south on Ga. 365, failed to maintain the lane, traveling off the west shoulder of the road, according to GSP. Once off the roadway, the car struck a sign and guardrail face before traveling into the wood line, striking several trees and overturning. The car came to rest on its passenger side facing east.

Emergency personnel had to cut Craven from the wreckage.

A witness told the investigating trooper Craven passed him at a high rate of speed and appeared to be having a medical emergency.

Craven was warned for failure to maintain lane, according to GSP.

The wreck was reported at 8:36 a.m. and the southbound lanes of Ga. 365 were shut down until 10 a.m.
