Former dean at Gainesville College dies

A former dean at what was then Gainesville College, Steve Gurr, has died at the age of 78.

Gurr died Friday following a brief illness.

A native of Ellaville, Georgia, he taught history and was a faculty administrator at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus for 15 years. In 1985, Gurr moved to Gainesville to become dean of students at Gainesville College, now a part of the University of North Georgia. He retired in 1994.

A private burial will be held at Ellaville Cemetery, with a celebration of life to be held at a future date.
