Officer-involved shooting leaves one man dead in Lilburn

A Lilburn man is dead after an officer-involved shooting around midnight this morning, Saturday, Nov. 7. Gwinnett County Police initially responded to a call about a domestic-related incident, according to department spokesperson Officer Kylie Boney.

Officers found the victim in the backyard of the house on Bent Willow Drive in Lilburn, treated her for injuries, and removed her from the scene.

The suspect exited the house with a gun and went back inside. He then barricaded himself inside and shot the gun. Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, but they were unsuccessful.

The Gwinnett County SWAT team responded to the scene and tried to peacefully resolve the issue. The suspect exited the residence and shot at the SWAT officers. An officer returned fire and hit the suspect.

SWAT officers immediately tended to the suspect and paramedics responded shortly after, but the suspect died at the scene.

The suspect's name and relationship to the victim has not been released.

The Gwinnett County Police Department has called the GBI to handle the investigation.
