GSP charges Toccoa man in delayed death of Cornelia driver

The Georgia State Patrol has charged a Toccoa man in the death of a Cornelia man more than a week after a seemingly minor wreck Dec. 7.

Bruce Douglas Cram, 56, is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Homer James Stephens, 87, of Cornelia, said Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

Cram was driving a white 1998 Ford Expedition west on Level Grove Road just outside Cornelia and failed to yield while turning left onto the Ga. 365 southbound entrance ramp, according to the GSP report.

Stephens was driving a yellow 2000 Isuzu Hombre east on Level Grove Road and it was struck in the front by Cram’s SUV.

Neither driver sought medical treatment at the scene.

Stephens sought medical treatment after discomfort in his abdominal region on Dec. 15, 2019, according to GSP. He succumbed to his injury at approximately 1 a.m. Dec. 16.

The medical examiner ruled the injury from the wreck resulted in Stephens’ death, Johnson said. After clarification from the medical examiner's office, the Georgia State Patrol charged Cram with vehicular homicide.

Cram was booked at the Habersham County Detention Center last week, and has been released on bond.
