Man seriously burned, airlifted for medical treatment after Dawson County fire

A man received serious burns after a house fire on War Hill Park Drive in Dawson County.

According to Danny Thompson, EMA Director/Fire Chief, multiple reports of a single wide mobile home that had become engulfed with flames began rolling into Dawson County E911 around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

When crews arrived at the scene, firefighters found the structure consumed with heavy fire and resulted in defensive operations to bring the blaze under control quickly.

"The first arriving units found heavy fire from a single wide mobile home. Personnel began defensive operations to the amount of fire involvement," Thompson said. "Personnel on the scene were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes of arrival."

Thompson said a male subject was injured as a result of the fire and had to be airlifted to the nearest hospital for medical treatment of sustained burns.

"A male subject was life-flighted from War Hill Park due to burn injuries that were sustained from the fire," he said.

At this time, Dawson County Fire Services said the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature but the fire remains under investigation.

Thompson said as a reminder to the public, to always contact 911 at the first signs of any fire in order to assure quick response time for firefighters.

"This is a good time to remind our community to be mindful and keep items at least 3 feet away from any heat source," he said. "At the first sign of fire, always call 911 and get the fire department in route as soon as possible."
