Apartments damaged in Homer duplex fire Thursday

Firefighters from three departments worked to contain a fire at a duplex apartment building in Homer Thursday afternoon.

Units from Banks County Fire/EMS, Homer Fire and Lee Arrendale Fire Department were paged at 3:48 p.m. to 105 Timberlane St., Homer, for a residential apartment fire.

“Upon arrival units found a multi-family apartment building, duplex, with heavy smoke showing from the exterior,” Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols said. “A quick interior attack was conducted, and the fire was extinguished, containing it to the apartment of origin.”

The occupant, who was home at the time of the fire, was not hurt.

“The cause of the fire is listed as accidental, possibly caused by careless smoking,” Nichols said.
