Deputy Dixon Scholarship Fund included in new scholarships honoring first responders

A generous North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) fundholder is issuing a call to action to honor the memories of four North Georgia first responders, including Hall County Deputy Nicolas Dixon who was killed in the line of duty July 8, 2019.

According to Megan Martin Vice President of Marketing and Development of NGCF, this anonymous fundholder has established four separate scholarship funds designated for children and spouses of North Georgia first responders seeking a college education.

"You can be a part of this great effort to honor the memories of these local heroes by making a gift to any of these funds," Martin said. "Donations can be made by contacting NGCF at 770-535-7880 or visiting www.ngcf.org/donate to make an online gift."

Along with the Deputy Dixon Scholarship Fund, the additional funds established are in memory of Captain Tim Peebles, Flight-Medic Phil Hart and Deputy Patrick Mayfield. Peebles served as a fire fighter in Hall County for 25 years, passing away due to illness at the young age of 44. Hart was the first paramedic in Habersham County, a position he held for 33 years while also flying for Air Life Georgia. Mayfield was a Habersham County resource officer adored by his students, who died unexpectedly at the age of 52.

During the 2019 scholarship season, NGCF administered 213 scholarship awards totaling $355,900 for students attending college and university across the country.
