DNR rangers seek info on Lake Burton hit-and-run boat incident

A 29-year-old woman who was swimming near her family’s boathouse on Lake Burton was injured after being struck by a passing boat that left the scene and the Georgia DNR needs the public’s help locating it.

The incident happened just south of Governor’s Cove between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, behind a home on Kubler Lane at the time of the incident, that resulted in injuries to her arm and head, said DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon.

A deck boat in the area heard her cries for help, called 9-1-1 and rendered aid until an ambulance arrived.

Law enforcement rangers from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources want to speak with anyone who saw the incident, or who can provide a description of the vessel or any other information on the individuals involved, or any other potentially relevant details.

Anyone who believes they have information that might be useful should contact Game Warden 1st Class Joe Hill at (229) 539-1820.
