Forsyth County school leaders begin looking at redrawing attendance lines

With a new elementary school opening next school year, Forsyth County school staff members are already looking at redrawing attendance lines.

"Our two primary objectives any time we go through new school attendance lines are, number one, is to relieve overcrowding at any existing schools, where possible, and to functionally populate any new school," Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden told the school board.

Bearden said staff will look at many different factors when deciding where to draw the attendance lines.

"We'll look at school feeder alignment. We look at the placement of special instructional programs. We look at traffic patterns as they affect travel times and safety. We look at the accessibility of students and families by various methods as well as proximity," Bearden said. "Those are in no particular order, but those are all things staff will look at."

Pooles' Mill Elementary school will open to students for the 2020-2021 school year.
