The city of Suwanee is proposing a flat millage rate as it begins its Fiscal Year 2020 budget.
A release from the city says the proposal would keep the rate at 4.93 mills. According to the city, recent property assessments mean the flat rate would cause an estimated 4.69 percent increase in residents' property taxes. The average household would see a $28.29 property tax increase for the year.
Suwanee will host two public meetings to discuss the proposed millage rate before it is voted on by the city council. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, August 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Suwanee City Hall. The second will be also be held at city hall on Tuesday, August 27 at 12:00 p.m.
The final public hearing will be at the council's August 27 meeting at 6:30 p.m. The city council will then vote on the millage rate.
The Gwinnett County city recently approved the 2020 budget that totals over $13.7 million, a 2.2 percent increase from 2019's budget.
