New Michael Moore-backed doc tackles alternative energy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A new documentary promoted and backed by Michael Moore poses the provocative question: What if alternative energy isn't all it's cracked up to be?

"Planet of the Humans" takes on electric cars, solar panels, wind turbines, biomass, biofuel and even leading environmentalist groups like the Sierra Club, and figures, from Al Gore and Van Jones to 350.org leader Bill McKibben.

It's directed by Moore's longtime producer Jeff Gibbs. It premiered last week at Moore's Traverse City Film Festival where it garnered an unexpected standing ovation.

Gibbs says it was crushing to learn that solar and wind aren't the solutions, but he hopes that the film will get the country asking better questions and lead to better change.

"Planet of the Humans" does not yet have distribution.
