Body found in abandoned Hall County house

A body was found inside an abandoned home on Old Athens Road over the weekend.

At this point, no foul play is expected and there were no obvious signs of trauma to the woman's body, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and Gainesville Police responded to the home at 1495 Old Athens Road around 2:30 p.m. Saturday after a neighbor in the area noticed a foul odor coming from the home and went inside. The neighbor knew a woman had been staying in the home and wanted to check on her, the Sheriff's Office said, and he found her deceased and called law enforcement.

The body may have been there for several days and neighbors had not seen the woman for approximately two weeks, according to preliminary information from the sheriff's office.

The name of the woman or the reason she was staying in the home have not been released. Her body has been taken to the DeKalb Medical Examiner's for autopsy and identification.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
