Probation warrant leads to stolen property in Stephens County

When Stephens County deputies went to execute an arrest for Dawson County Sheriff’s Office last week, it led to the recovery of property stolen in Habersham and Forsyth counties.

On Friday, July 19, deputies went to a home on Christine Circle at a Toccoa address.

While deputies were there, they observed a dump trailer with the manufacturer’s serial numbers removed, according to Sheriff Randy Shirley. Deputies also ran a license plate on a vehicle at the residence that returned stolen from Habersham County. At that point, uniformed deputies notified the Criminal Investigations Division, who responded to the scene.

While investigators were responding, deputies observed a boat and trailer on the same property, according to Shirley. After running the serial numbers through GCIC, both returned stolen out of Habersham County.

When investigators arrived, they were briefed on all the items that had returned stolen, Shirley said. Investigators then began looking through the dump trailer to see if there was anything to help identify an owner. After locating some identifying information, investigators ran the trailer through GCIC, where it was recently reported stolen from Forsyth County, Shirley said.

Investigators also located a stolen jet ski and trailer from Forsyth County.

Shirley said the total value of all the items recovered was approximately $25,000. All the items recovered were returned to Forsyth and Habersham counties to be returned to the rightful owners.

Shirley said investigators obtained arrest warrants for Timothy Leon Black, 55, and Timothy Kyle Black, 29, both of Christine Circle in Toccoa for two counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property, one count of misdemeanor theft by receiving stolen property, and one count of criminal use of article with altered identification marks.

An additional warrant was issued for Timothy Kyle Black for one count of misdemeanor theft by receiving stolen property, according to Shirley.

Timothy Kyle Black was arrested later that day. Warrants for Timothy Leon Black remain active.

The Dawson County arrest warrant was for Timothy Kyle Black for probation violation, according to Shirley
