Police: Suspect fatally shot after attacking Georgia officer

By The Associated Press

ROSWELL, Ga. (AP) — Georgia investigators say a police officer shot and killed a man who attacked him inside a gas station.

News outlets report the Roswell police officer was in the gas station Thursday when he noticed the cashier arguing with a man who allegedly didn't pay for an item.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says in a news release that when the officer intervened the man attacked him with a large, blunt object.

The officer used his stun gun to stop the suspect but was unsuccessful. It's unclear why the stun gun was unsuccessful. The man then continued to attack the officer and was shot.

Both the man and officer were taken to the hospital. The man later died from his injuries. The officer is expected to be OK.

The investigation is ongoing.
