Delaware man indicted on charges of making false threats in Forsyth County

After being accused of making fake threats to law enforcement agencies around the country, including Forsyth County, a Georgetown man will face a courtroom.

The calls included false reports of murder, shooting incidents, arson, and hostage situations meant to bring SWAT teams to the residence of people 29 year old Rodney Phipps wanted to harrass, according to David C. Weiss, the US attorney for the District of Delaware.

In addition to a call to Forsyth County authorites, Phipps allegedly committed the same crimes in New Jersey, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Florida.

Investigators say the incidents spanned from August of 2015 through August of 2017.

He faces five charges of making interstate threats and one count of making a false threat involving explosives.

For each interstate threat, he could receive the maximum sentence of 5 years. The false threat involving explosives could come with a maximum sentence of 10 years.

This case is being investigated by FBI-Baltimore Division’s Wilmington Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jesse S. Wenger.
