New phone scammers claim to be local law enforcement seeking donations

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new phone scam in which the caller pretends to be with the Sheriff's office.

The scammers claim they are seeking donations or ask for the victim to send money over the phone to raise money for "food baskets," according to a press release from Lt. Scott Ware.

Ware said the phone call is not legitimate and is a scam.

If you receive a call, Ware said not to give out any sensitive information, like a credit card number, or personal information, like your social security number.

And, Ware asked anyone who had received a scam call to report it to the Sheriff's Office Criminal investigations Division at 770-531-6879.
