Dry conditions resulted in a wildfire west of Cleveland spreading rapidly Thursday afternoon.
The fire with potential exposures at 230 Forbes Drive was reported by several callers to White County 9-1-1 about 4 p.m. Thursday, according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.
That address is located off Paradise Valley Road in the Frogtown Community.
White County Fire Station 6 and Station 5, with mutual aid from Cleveland Fire Department and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department responded, along with automatic aid from Lumpkin County Fire.
Additionally, the Georgia Forestry Commission and the White County Emergency Management CERT Rehab Team responded to assist.
The roughly 10-acre fire was brought under control about 6 p.m., with the last unit leaving the scene at 7:20 p.m, Thursday, according to Murphy.
“While this fire remains under investigation and unknown cause currently exists, it is a reminder to all persons burning debris, leaves, etc., you must obtain a burn permit from the Georgia Forestry Commission,” Murphy said.
