Forsyth County school leaders propose $479 million dollar budget for 2020

The school board in Forsyth County looked at the proposed budget for 2020 at their recent work session.

Before the $479 million dollar budget was proposed, Superintendent Jeff Bearden reminded everyone of the achievements of the district.

"We're the only system in Georgia to receive the 5-star financial efficiency rating every year since that distinction has been made," Bearden said. "We are one of two systems in Georgia with a AAA bond rating and we have the lowest per people cost among our state's largest school systems and the highest academic achievement."

Bearden also gave details about employee pay raises during the first public hearing.

"This budget does include the $3,000 a year salary increase for our certified staff and a 2% cost of living adjustment for our classified staff," explained Bearden. "We appreciate the support of our new Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and members of the local delegation for providing the resources to assist with these increases."

He also said the millage rate will remain steady at 17.3 mills.

The second public hearing will be held Tuesday night and the board will make their final vote at the meeting in June.
