GSP details Saturday wreck that injured 8 people on Ga. 365

Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa has released details of a three-vehicle wreck that hurt four youth and four adults on Ga. 365 in southern Habersham County on Saturday.

The wreck involved a white 2013 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Joseph Bates McClellon, 40, of Gillsville, a black 2017 Jeep Cherokee Sport driven by Cassie Michelle Smith, 28, of Demorest, and a maroon 2010 Honda CRV driven by Marisa Wilson Lovell, 42, of Clayton.

According to GSP, McClellon’s Chevrolet Traverse was traveling west from the median crossover on Ga. 365 at Crane Mill Road. Smith’s Jeep Cherokee Sport and Lovell’s Honda CRV were traveling south on Ga. 365 in the right lane.

McClellon failed to yield right of way and his vehicle was struck in the right front quarter panel by the left front of Smith’s Jeep Cherokee Sport, according to GSP. McClellon’s Traverse rotated counter-clockwise and was struck in its front by the front of Lovell’s Honda CRV, according to GSP.

McClellon, who was wearing a lap and shoulder belt, suffered suspected minor or visible injuries and was not taken for treatment, according to GSP.

Smith, who was wearing a lap and shoulder belt, was trapped and had to be extricated. She suffered suspected serious injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Hall County EMS, according to GSP.

Smith’s front-seat passenger, Clinton Smith, 31, of Demorest, suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta by Hall County EMS, along with 8-year-old Sawyer Smith and 1-year-old Sylas Smith, according to GSP.

Sawyer Smith, who was properly restrained in a child restraint, suffered suspected minor or visible injuries. Sylas Smith, also properly restrained in a child safety seat, suffered possible injuries or complaint, according to GSP.

Lovell, who was wearing a lap and shoulder belt, suffered suspected serious injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Habersham County Emergency Services, according to GSP.

Lovell’s back-seat passenger, 14-year-old Jessica Dale of Clayton, suffered suspected minor or visible injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Habersham County Emergency Services, according to GSP.

Lovell’s front-seat passenger, 16, of Clayton suffered suspected minor or visible injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Habersham County Emergency Services, according to GSP.

GSP cited McClellon with failure to yield when entering or crossing a roadway.
