Clermont man seriously injured in ATV crash near Lula

Officials have released details of a Monday-afternoon ATV crash in Banks County.

“On April 22, at 4:45 p.m., units from Banks County Fire/EMS responded to Moccasin Gap Road and Bertha Gragg Road, Lula, on a reported vehicle accident with injuries,” said Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols. “Upon arrival, they found a four-wheeler, ATV, that has struck a sign near the roadway and the person on the vehicle had been ejected onto the roadway. The victim was a male in his 20s and presented to the responders with a serious head injury.”

The Georgia State Patrol provided details of that crash.

“The investigation showed Michael Hunter Dalton, 20, of Clermont was operating a Yamaha Bear Tracker ATV when he lost control of the ATV and traveled across the centerline,” said Sgt. C.E. Parker, assistant post commander of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville.

The ATV traveled onto the west shoulder, where it struck a street sign. Dalton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

“He was stabilized and transported by EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in serious condition,” Nichols said.

No impairment is suspected, and no charges are expected to be filed, according to Parker.
