GBI to autopsy body of Canton woman found in the Chestatee River

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will perform an autopsy on the body of Belinda Butterfield after it was discovered Wednesday in the Chestatee River.

Lt. Alan Roach with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office said a concerned citizen heard reports of Butterfield, 34 of Canton, going missing Monday morning while floating on the Tesnatee River in White County. He said the citizen decided to use his expertise of the rivers in the area to help with the search.

The Lumpkin County Fire Department's Swift Water Rescue team was called in to recover the partially submerged body. They were assisted by White County Sheriff's deputies and personnel from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Family members of Butterfield were able to confirm that the remains were those of Butterfield.
