Smoke detectors credited for quick response in Barrow County house fire

Two people credit working smoke detectors in their Barrow County home for making it out of their burning home quickly and safely.

Firefighters arrived at the two-story home on Ally Drive around 9 pm Monday night, according to Barrow County Emergency Services Public Information Officer Steve Rose.

“The residents of the home told investigators they heard smoke detectors going off, and that alerted them to the fire. We continually promote smoke alarms, and this positive outcome helps reinforce that,” said Public Information Officer Steve Rose.

He said crews from three stations helped extinguish the flames and only the room where investigators believe the fire originated suffered heavy damage.

The two adult residents are receiving help from the American Red Cross and were not injured.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
