Savannah sees sales drop during St. Patrick's Day festival

By The Associated Press

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A street festival tied to the South's largest St. Patrick's Day parade is reporting a decline in wristband sales that gauge the popularity of the two-day event.

The Savannah Morning News reports sales of $10 wristbands declined 18% this year compared to the 2018 event. The wristbands were required to drink alcohol outdoors along Savannah's downtown riverfront during the festival March 15 and 16. This year and last, the festival was held on a Friday and Saturday.

The festival, featuring live music and outdoor beer vendors, coincides with the sprawling St. Patrick's Day parade that draws thousands to Georgia's oldest city.

One factor than might have thinned crowds this year: The parade and festival were held before the actual March 17 Irish holiday, which fell on Sunday.
